Mindfulness-Based Strategies for Substance Use Disorders, Opioid Misuse and Chronic Pain
Presenter: Gus Castellanos, M.D.
Date: Friday, July 13, 2018 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
With the current opioid crisis as a background, this 7-hour workshop will highlight the impact of substance use disorders on the individual and society, and how and when mindfulness-based interventions are beneficial in the treatment of substance use disorders as well as in chronic pain. There will be discussions on mindfulness, addiction, pain and stress. Recent neuroscience and clinical research of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for relapse prevention will be presented. We will practice mindful meditations, including mindful eating during lunch, with time for inquiry, so that participants may integrate their direct experience with the didactic portions of the workshop.
